Crash Landing the Persian Mothership explores the life and creative journey of Iranian-born artist Parham Ghalamdar, whose work moves freely between painting, animation and ceramics.
Filmed over seven years, the documentary follows Parham from his turbulent teenage years in Iran — where he was arrested several times for creating graffiti — to his eventual arrival in Britain after seeking political asylum.
His art reflects a restless curiosity and a fascination with a wide range of subjects, from fine art and art history to social and political history, philosophy, environmental concerns and science fiction.
Through Parham’s life and work, the film explores how personal experience, displacement and an insatiable curiosity about the world can shape an artist’s imagination and creative expression.
There is a 30min and a 15 min version of this film.
