History, Mystery & Odyssey is a feature documentary exploring the lives and work of six internationally renowned independent animators and animation directors.

The film brings together the stories and creative journeys of six multi-award-winning artists: Jim Blashfield, Rose Bond, Joan C. Gratz, Zak Margolis, Joanna Priestley and Chel White.

Working across more than four decades, their films reveal an extraordinary range of animation techniques — from direct animation and classic stop-motion to clay painting, 3D models, computer-generated imagery and, more recently, AI.

Filmed entirely in Portland, Oregon, where all six artists live and work, History, Mystery & Odyssey offers a unique insight into the imagination, craft and evolving technology behind independent animation.
